Move and nourish your body well.
A calm mind, strong body and healthy habits
are the foundations of a well-balanced, content life.
Ann Wicken
It’s my ambition to share my enthusiasm, energy and experience with as many people as I can. People just like you.
My classes are fun, affordable, and challenging. I bring an infectious motivation to get people moving, breathing, sweating and enjoying exercise.
After over 20 years in the health and fitness industry I have literally seen and heard it all. When you strip it all back, the most important thing is to take action and enjoy what you do.
RISE YOGA
Real yoga for real people. I teach 'Ann’s version' of a dynamic form of Asana (poses) that will leave you feeling strong, empowered and grounded. My classes aren’t airy-fairy (no ohming required). My goal is to translate the ancient yoga wisdom into something simple and relatable for everyday. I blend modern day philosophy into the classes for you to take from the mat into your life.

I design creative, dynamic, and safe sequences that consist of classic and attainable postures. I gradually build up toward more challenging and advanced poses, while providing options for modifications along the way.
My classes focus on improving flexibility, strength, and balance.

Yoga & Fitness Teacher
Hi! My name’s Ann, and I am the Founder of RISE Yoga Fitness Online.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. This is a bit about who I am, what I do, and how I got started.
I am a Certified Yoga Teacher and Personal Trainer, helping people transform their lives through yoga and fitness.

My Background:

I have worked in the Health and Fitness Industry for over 30 years.
It all began when I started teaching Les Mills Group Fitness classes in Dunedin when I was studying for a Bachelor of Physical Education (those were the days). Over the years I have consistently shared my love of movement, fitness and health whilst being a mother, a teacher, a Personal Trainer and a Women’s Wellness Coach.
After thinking Yoga was for ‘those people’ not me, I discovered Vinyasa Yoga and as they say, “The rest is history”. From that first practice I was hooked, and immediately noticed the changes in my mind and body.
I completed my Yoga Teacher Training in New Zealand through Power Living Yoga.
Regular and consistent yoga practice combined with fitness classes over the years has enabled me to remain strong, supple and fit in to my 50s. (Seriously, how did that happen so quickly?!) It has also helped me became kinder, more caring, grounded, and exponentially more positive.

RISE Yoga Fitness Online was born from a desire to create a community of people like you - who want fun, affordable, challenging yoga and fitness classes that can be done anywhere, anytime. You don’t have to be able to bend in half like a staple or be super fit to join in. All you need is an open mind and a willingness to want to move, breathe, bend and balance better. Therefore, I’m sharing my knowledge and experience so that you too can reap the benefits of combining yoga and fitness classes in to your week for those mindful sweaty fixes.
Welcome to my yoga-fitness world!
Some random facts:

-
I like both the beach and the mountains. I love hiking and mountain biking, and I’m also a very novice surfer.
-
There are lots of plants in my diet, but I’m not vegan. I drink both smoothies and LOTS of coffee. I eat gluten and dairy and won’t say no to chocolate, wine and pizza every once in a while.
-
I used to think yoga was just mild stretching and something to do with Spiritualism and veganism, (very naive).
